Ithemba Lethu social workers work within some of Durban's poorest schools as a support pillar for kids most in need. Their programs work to bridge gaps in life skills and social dynamics left by broken families and the impact of HIV. Many of the children they deal with each day do not have access to adequate nutrition, often arriving at school hungry, unable to concentrate.
Currently, Ithemba Lethu are distributing fruit to 250 Grade 5 and 6 Learners at HP Ngwenya Primary School in Ridgeview every week through the FreshBox programme. You can help increase the number of school children in need receiving fruit by choosing Ithemba Lethu as your FreshBox beneficiary.
The core vision at LIV is to provide holistic, residential care for vulnerable children with the primary aim to rescue a child, restore a life, raise a leader and release a star. Founded in 2008 by Tich and Joan Smith, Liv Village's goals focus on irradicating poverty, while creating good health and wellbeing, quality education, gender equality, decent work and economic growth and reduce inequalities.
The Village on the KZN North Coast consists of over 50 family units and is the full-time home to more than 200 abandoned and vulnerable children. Each child lives within a home under the care of an organisation-appointed mother, alongside 5 brothers and sisters. As they say .. it takes a Village.

They work alongside child protection organisations, the South African Police Service, and hospitals, to ensure that babies and children who have no-one to take care of them will be cared for and loved - nurturing these babies until permanent, loving families are found.
In addition to the babies their team care for, they also care for several children with special needs. Three of these children have severe Cerebral Palsy. They require wheelchairs, special chairs, walking frames, alternative communication systems and more.
